The Future Of Type B Messaging
Long regarded as legacy technology, Type B Messaging is highly interconnected with all endpoints and touchpoints in the aviation network. As long as it is necessary to support Type B Messaging in its current form, the scope for modernisation is limited.

In May 2025, IATA published a white paper that reflects an industry-wide view of Type B Messaging and its challenges, including the limitations inherent in the IATA Type B standard. While a useful contribution to industry thinking, the paper appears to raise more questions than it provides answers with respect to navigating a way forward.

In this report, 'The Future of Type B Messaging', T2RL presents a detailed commentary on the issues raised by IATA.
